ABSTRACT

This chapter seeks to conceptualise the different production systems that underlie innovation and development processes in social services, more specifically home help services for the elderly in Denmark – drawing on an already reported case study.* I distinguish among what I conceive to be three main production systems: a societal system, an interactive system and an organisational system. Each of these systems has developed over a period of ten to fifteen years since the beginning of the 1950s. However, they can also be seen as simultaneous occurrences that exist side by side. A further argument is that each of these production systems develops a specific management role. We will particularly look into the management problems of home help as an organisational system in the latter stage.
