ABSTRACT

The recession in the construction industry has hit the business of the architect. The traditional role of the architect is also under threat within todays evolving construction industry. Information technology (IT) is playing and ever increasing part in the construction process. To achieve success with IT implementation defining requirements and selecting systems needs careful consideration. This paper sets out a strategic approach for architects contemplating the introduction of IT or planning system expansion. Reviewing business objectives, management and user involvement, and the process of system selection are discussed. Finally, the paper raises the issues of benefits, commitment and investment requirements.
