ABSTRACT

This chapter addresses issues that particularly concern candidates intending to enrol in postgraduate research degrees in a foreign country. The chapter reviews some of the key differences and similarities in higher degree offerings in different countries including the United States, the United Kingdom and Australia, and the implications for prospective students. Other factors influencing the decision to study in another culture, such as visa, cultural and financial issues are also discussed, to enable prospective research students to better understand the options that are available, and the factors that should be considered when choosing to enrol in a research degree in another country.
