ABSTRACT

Pain, a sensation of physical discomfort ranging from the mild to the extremely intense, can be caused by a wide variety of HIV/AIDS-related conditions. Estimates of the prevalence of pain vary from 28 percent in HIV-positive asymptomatic persons to 97 percent in persons with AIDS. Most people with HIV/AIDS have more than one kind of pain, with greater than 5 average intensity on a scale numbering from 1 to 10.
