ABSTRACT

Underground treatments are a controversial form of alternative medicine that have long been used by people with HIV/AIDS. An underground treatment is classified as a drug or medicinal compound that cannot be obtained easily in the United States and must be either manufactured or sold illegally or imported from other countries. Hence, products such as these are disseminated via underground networks, often organized by people with HIV/AIDS. There have also been cases in which dishonest promoters claimed to have discovered supposedly useful treatments in order to earn easy profits.
