Orchestras and chamber music presenters fret about the preponderance of grey heads among their audiences, and lament the lost days of patrons queuing eagerly for their subscription renewals. Classical music no longer figures as an essential element of our children’s education. Radio stations devoted to classical music face closure or radical restructuring into “adult contemporary” formats.
