Anglo American scholarship grew exponentially as his major works, all written in German, were translated beginning in the 1970s. Dahlhaus became admired for his penetrating insights into musical aesthetics, historiography, the history of music theory, and the music of Beethoven, Wagner, and Schoenberg.
