ABSTRACT

Imagine you find yourself at some crowded place anywhere in a big city. You move around and perceive a lot of information on the things that happen around you, and there is other information that you simply do not recognize or process consciously. There is, for example, a bulk of cars that quickly rush by, and you have to strongly concentrate while you attempt to cross the street. At the same time, you do not realize the anxious child next to you who fearfully hesitates to cross the street. You also meet a lot of other people, some of them just pass by, and with others you start some small interactions. Some of these individuals might smile in a friendly manner at you, but one person might approach you with an angry expression since the person might have just lost his or her job and therefore is extremely agitated. Besides these visual impressions, you also encounter a multitude of sounds. For example, you might hear a group of people laughing and celebrating since they just passed a challenging exam, but you may also hear a scream of another person just around the corner or a dog barking somewhere nearby but you cannot exactly locate where it originates.
