How does resource-based learning help the self-directed learner?

This chapter considers the way in which a resource-based approach to teaching has increased the opportunities for people to learn. The range of resources that the Open University has developed includes television and multimedia, and the consequences of the convergence of computer and communications technology. Resource-based learning developed in distance education in response to a growing interest in the capacity of different media for helping science learners.
