‘The Germans want to make us German, but it will take several years; they might succeed in assimilating us, but our religion will persist’, stated a father who had grown up in Germany, where he is currently the owner of a factory making machine tools and head of the association of Turkish businessmen in Berlin. In this way he expresses the ‘hard core’ of identity. 1
