ABSTRACT
Kessler’s second methodological problem in the study of life events lies in the logic of data analysis. Statisticians generally must assume that each event in a series of events is independent of all the others and is, also, a random occurrence in relation to other causes of a disorder such as depression. Yet, depression and other disorders influence the experiences a person has, so the assumptions are so incorrect as to make the results of the analyses very suspect.
