ABSTRACT

I have never eaten dog. I think there is a rumor out there that dogs are a Korean delicacy, but all I know about Korean food is what I’ve seen and eaten at home. (My parents, I should add, are immigrants.) Occasionally I’ve tried strangers’ Korean food, i.e., my parents’ friends, and in the past year I’ve eaten in many Korean restaurants, but my primary connection to Korean food remains at home. This is not a negative thing, except sometimes I think about my cousins, and what their mothers make for them, and I feel a small pang of jealousy because I know that their tables are always topped with a great deal more variety than our own.
