ABSTRACT
The Silesian Anabaptists, who in the sixteenth century frantically appealed to the Sultan for help in the face of the Lutheran threat, never met their Bektashi brothers attached to the Ottoman army, for it never got past Vienna and came too late. However, that event was one of many examples where the confrontation between East and West on a higher political level obscures bridges that have united a common spirituality over the centuries.
