ABSTRACT
This volume explores the emerging industrial architecture of the wider Europe, and, in particular, the interplay between production and policy integration in shaping the new relationships between the East and the West. Our definition of integration is a wide one, highlighting not just the roles of firms and governments, but also of networks, which we consider to be central to the development of competitive advantages for both the old and new members of the European Union (EU). However, the outcome of pan-European industrial integration is not automatically positive and a variety of factors must be in place for a ‘win-win’ situation.
