ABSTRACT
This is a chapter about teaching modern British fiction, and about British Cultural Studies. But this conjunction already poses a pedagogic and indeed theoretical problem. Are we to speak of teaching fiction in the context of British Cultural Studies; or are we to speak of teaching fiction as an aid to the more general study of British culture?
