ABSTRACT

This chapter is based on some of my reflections as a supervisor to students, managers and staff working in different organisations who were interested in looking at their work from a psychodynamic and groupanalytic point of view. The objective of the seminar was to extend the participants’ awareness of individual and group dynamics to an understanding of organisational dynamics, and to focus on tasks, roles, relationships, communication patterns and wider systemic issues, namely the organisational matrix. The case material illustrates some of these issues and some of the problems that staff have to contend with in their everyday working life. Comments are also made about the supervision group as a tool of learning and development.
