ABSTRACT

I have worked as an art therapist for several years with patients suffering from chronic invalidating conditions: in particular with adults and elderly people with Parkinson’s disease and Alzheimer’s. My initial purpose was to offer these patients some moments of well-being and pleasure in a serene and relaxing environment, allowing for artistic activity to perform its cathartic and liberating effect. Later I was able to offer a more focused approach, deriving from the process of painful liberation, compensated by times of intense consolation, which is afforded by a creative act.
