In this chapter we intend to present some interim results of the research on “Proximate television and the information society in the European Union,” carried out by a team of European researchers under the coordination of the Institute of Communications of the UAB (InCom).1 It was finished in July 1999 and published in late 1999 (Moragas, Garitaonandía and López, 1999).
