ABSTRACT
New communication technologies are creating a new type of community. It is variously referred to as intelligent communities, smart communities, para-social communities, virtual communities, and cyber communities. The social relationships among the members of these communities are not necessarily based on physical proximity. Strategic locations such as transportation crossroads, easy access to raw materials and labor, which were very important for the emergence and sustenance of communities in earlier periods of history, are no longer the deciding criteria for the emergence of intelligent communities. New telecommunication technologies have made it possible for business to produce, consumers to purchase and workers to interact without the need for common physical location.2
