ABSTRACT

This chapter considers Australia's divergent statebuilding experiences in East Timor and Solomon Islands. An important sponsor of formal interventions in both countries following periods of violent conflict, Australia's participation – under United Nations auspices in East Timor (Timor-Leste) and a Pacific regional mandate in Solomon Islands – saw it become a leading practitioner of the statebuilding paradigm.
