ABSTRACT

Between one half to two thirds of India’s people do not get food of the right type, and between one quarter to one third do not even get enough quantity to eat in order to sustain a healthy active life. Add to this the staggering magnitude of malnutrition and actual hunger, the accelerating growth of population which even on a conservative assumption is expected to reach 625 million by 1980 and the one billion mark by 2000, and one has the colossal dimension of India’s food problem.
