ABSTRACT
In this chapter, I begin to construct an alternative account of disability, one which is based on an interactional or relational understanding. Disability results from an interplay of individual and contextual factors. In other words, people are disabled by society and by their bodies. This approach bridges the political gulf between the medical and social models of disability.
