ABSTRACT
The East Asian financial crisis plunged a number of the most rapidly growing and successful economies in the world into financial chaos and a deep depression. This chapter discusses the international policy advice which was given both before and during the crisis, and outlines some of the questions that remain to be answered. This initial review is deliberately tentative. Our purpose is to point to areas needing further work rather than to provide definite conclusions.
