ABSTRACT
This chapter is an attempt to give a descriptive profile of Hong Kong’s middle class in the aftermath of the Asian financial crisis and its political transition from a British colony to a special administrative region within China. The discussion draws primarily from the preliminary findings of the ‘Survey on Social Mobility and Life Chances in Hong Kong 2006’ (thereafter the 2006 Survey). 1
