This chapter has three general purposes. The fi rst is to delineate a profi le of the middle classes in current Taiwan society. The second is to examine the changing distributions of ethnic groups among different social classes between 1990 and 2006. The third is to demonstrate the attitudes of the middle classes towards public expenditure and taxation.
