ABSTRACT
Due to the complexity of climate change and its potential impacts, building knowledge and updating information regularly based on new research results and practical experience require particular attention (Grothmann 2011). Open access to information and the communication of scientific and practical knowledge, among other elements, are essential preconditions for good adaptation. Building knowledge (cf. Chapters 5, 9 and 10) also raises awareness of climate change and adaptation needs and helps to support the implementation of adaptation actions (Smith et al. 2009).
