ABSTRACT
The northern Iroquoians traditionally share an anthropomorphic cosmology which places each community at the center of the world. In their mythical reality, human beings are not the only entities possessing souls, reason, volition, and animacy. They inhabit, and maintain through ritual contract, an ordered, egalitarian world comprised of other-than-human kinds of beings who are regarded as classificatory kinsmen.
