ABSTRACT
Drought in the Sahel of Africa has recently drawn attention away from the major underlying force eroding pastoral nomadism with increasing rapidity — modern economic development. It is because of oil-stimulated economic growth and its urgent pace that the pastoral nomadic societies of the Middle East continue to decline.
