ABSTRACT
In this chapter the development of a child who is fully sighted is compared and contrasted with that of a child who is visually impaired. The effects of a visual loss in four developmental areas, social and emotional, language, cognitive, and mobility and orientation, are considered. The impact of the combination of those effects upon the functioning and learning potential of the individual is discussed.
