ABSTRACT
For those of us with a policy interest in understanding the role of agriculture in economic development, and how to manage the driver of that development – the structural transformation – history has provided the only experiments from which to learn. Controlled experiments are not relevant at this scale, and models only take us so far in the absence of detailed parameters and establishment of deep causal relationships.
