ABSTRACT
Analysis of different countries' housing problems and governments' responses to them is a field of enquiry that is as old as housing research itself. Seeing how they do it 'over there', plus strong doses of national pride and rivalry, have always led politicians and researchers to venture to other lands or to read potted summaries of different housing systems.
