Introduction

Modern Times: Reflections on a Century of English Modernity was conceived collectively by all the contributors; it was born out of the experience of team-teaching a final year course in Cultural Studies at the University of East London, which tackles aspects of cultural history (mainly in Britain) from the late nineteenth century to the present day reviewed through the prism of recent debates in cultural theory.
