Synthesizing governance themes from political and management theory

In this chapter we explore, both theoretically and empirically, how the relationship between political systems and corporate governance practices can be used to progress corporate sustainability. We argue that corporate sustainability is facilitated by ‘total responsibility management’, as outlined by Waddock et al. (2002). Waddock et al. 2002 argue that corporate sustainability requires internal corporate governance to move beyond compliance to the holistic approach of ‘total responsibility management’.
