ABSTRACT
The central debates about art and knowledge concern art’s potential as a source of knowledge. Do we learn things from art? If so, what kinds of things do we learn and how does the learning occur? I believe we indeed learn things from art, and I take that to be a relatively uncontroversial claim among non-philosophers. But it is a controversial claim within philosophy, and the reason for that lies in the difficulty of answering the ‘what’ and ‘how’ questions satisfactorily. I will survey some of the most promising answers to those questions here.
