ABSTRACT

In recent years a considerable number of empirical and review studies of the determinants of tourism demand have been reported in tourism and related journals. This chapter is intended to provide a theoretical overview of the determinants of demand from a spatial perspective. Although a brief discussion of the supply-side of tourism is inevitable, this chapter focuses on the demandside of tourism. More specifically, it examines the interaction of demand and supply, and reviews the types of demand measures and determinants.
