ABSTRACT

According to current reports (Stone 2003), many women in their twenties and thirties are deciding to give up work when their children are born – and here we are talking about women who have a university education behind them and promising careers, potentially, ahead. Best-selling books, like Allison Pearson’s I Don’t Know How She Does It (2002) and Danielle Crittenden’s Amanda Bright@ Home (2003) are said to be exemplars of this fashion for ‘yummy mummies’. They may even be role models.
