ABSTRACT

If anything could be said about the origins of the name ‘Walras’, it is certainly not that it is a typically French name. To some extent, this accounts for the existing confusion regarding the pronunciation of Léon Walras’s surname, both in his own day and at the present time. The non-French ‘W’ as well as the sounding ‘s’ at the end of the name1 reveal the non-French origin of the Walras family.
