ABSTRACT

In 1936, as the newly-wed Hon. Mrs. Richard Hare, the sculptor Dora Gordine (1898-1991) could claim international artistic recognition and social status as the wife of the second son of the fourth Earl of Listowel, an Irish peerage dating back to the 1790s (Figure 7.1) Her studio home, Dorich House, on the southern side of Richmond Park near London was the culmination of a dream for the Latvian-born sculptor (Figure 7.2) She designed it at the pinnacle of her success and it embodied all her social and professional aspirations.
