ABSTRACT

Regular physical activity (PA) and sport participation are generally associated with both immediate and long-term health, as well as wellness benefits. During the last decades adults turned child routines into adult-like routines, changed children’s free time into institutionalized time, turning children into small adults. Children stay away from their family all day long and, when they return home, they have to do their homework and play within the house (gameboy, playstation or watching television). In other words, children’s free time has been significantly reduced and the time spent in sedentary activities increased drastically and radically. Although children demonstrate an extraordinary capacity for mobility during childhood, they have no time to express it (except during a short period when they are engaged in any organized activity).
