ABSTRACT
The recent Polish search for the lost history of Polish-Jewish relations is not an abstract intellectual exercise. It is morally legitimate and necessary, and long overdue. At stake is the Polish people’s choice between freedom, which requires as full a recognition as possible of history, and imprisonment as a people desperately committed to nationalistic myths.
