ABSTRACT

A search on the University of Hull’s bibliographical database in 1994 yielded twenty-five pages of references on the prevalence of alcoholrelated problems among ethnic minorities. The literature is voluminous, but it is almost entirely North American. There is little in Europe and the UK to compare with this detailed study of the prevalence, incidence and remission rates of alcohol dependence among ethnic minorities, nor of the differing patterns of consumption and harm, service utilisation and treatment effectiveness.
