ABSTRACT

The findings of this study indicate that a skilled player used a sensitive form of perceptual control to kick a moving ball In both conditions, peak velocity of the foot occurred within 10 ms of ball contact. However, kicking technique was altered within each trial to satisfy the different demands placed upon the player. For example, in the maximum speed trials the range of motion about the hip and knee was typically increased to generate more force at ball-contact. In the accuracy trials, the hip and knee was extended at the same time (rather than in a chain-like fashion) to impart a more controlled direction of force.
