ABSTRACT

Depletion of PCr stores has frequently been cited as a limiting factor to the performance of repeated-sprint exercise (Bogdanis et al., 1996). A decrease in muscle pH (pHm) may also be important. Intracellular acidosis may impair repeated-sprint performance via inhibition of glycolysis and PCr resynthesis, and/or interference with muscle contractile processes. It can be hypothesised therefore, that the restoration of PCr stores and acid-base balance is important to maximise RSA.
