The main feature of the model is the fact that it is an integrated tool that includes selected aspects from other well-established analytical models (e.g. Hay and Reid, 1982; McPherson, 1990). Further, it added other features such as association between critical features and mechanical variables using appropriate mechanical principles of movement, assessment of the accuracy and reliability of estimated kinematic quantities from video, and qualitative descriptors for the rating of relatively complex biomechanical parameters. Despite the complexity of the process involved in its development, the model allowed for the creation of a ‘userfriendly’ scoring reference specific for the football kick that included rating scales and diagrams to guide the analyst (see Table 2).
