ABSTRACT
Now that we have a working definition of architecture and its fundamental purposeintellectual structuring and identification of place-we can look at the elements available in design. These are not the physical materials of building-bricks and mortar, glass, timber, etc.—but the compositional elements of architecture, and should be considered not as objects in themselves but in the ways they contribute to the identification of places.
