ABSTRACT
Anthropological studies of women's life and status often have tended to dissociate themselves from the overall analysis of culture and society (McDonald 1990). Focusing research on various implications of the single category ‘woman’ can thus easily overlook the dense network of relations between individual, structure and cosmovision. In this network, the female body attains particular importance for the social construction and interpretation of gender identity.
