ABSTRACT

Surface soils of Pakistan contain predominantly transported materials, mainly loess, old alluvial deposits, mountain outwash, and recent stream-valley deposits. In general, three ages of deposition are recognized: Pleistocene, subrecent or older Holocene and the recent or younger Holocene. The piedmont plain of the Himalayan foothills and the Indus and its tributary floodplain deposits are the major areas discussed in this paper.
