ABSTRACT
Although individuals are central to learning, the social context within which learning is located must also be favourable for students to learn to learn. This suggests that attention must be given to factors at institutional and course level as well to the individual learner. This is considered further in Chapter 2 and discussion of constructive alignment of the curriculum.
