ABSTRACT

In this chapter we consider how eLearning contributes to effective social policy and social work education. We begin by clarifying the term ‘eLearning’, and then contextualize eLearning in relation to the growth of the information society. We go on to explore some of the opportunities and challenges eLearning presents to social policy and social work educators. We end by setting out options for moving forward. First, a word about the term ‘eLearning’: we have adopted the convention, other than in quotations, of capitalizing the ‘L’ in ‘eLearning’ in order to emphasize the ‘Learning’ rather than the ‘Electronic’ aspects as emphasized by Lewis.
