Innovation in engineering education is not a new phenomenon. There have always been great teachers who have found ways to create a unique classroom environment. In addition, active, collaborative learning has been present in engineering education in the form, for example, of laboratories and senior design projects. There are three relatively recent and significant changes, however, that are stimulating broader innovation in the classroom and paradigm shifts at engineering schools.
